We see clearly in 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 that Jesus tells us to be steadfast in our faith. It is only fitting for the very first blog post here to answer the question: What does it mean to be steadfast in our faith?
Steadfast: not subject to change, resolutely or dutifully firm and unwavering
For those of you who have walked with the Lord for sometime, you know that choosing to follow Jesus does not mean our life instantly becomes full of mountain top moments. There are always accompanying valleys that we go through. These valleys are often where we learn the most about God and ourself.
Our journey itself may not be unwavering. Actually, it may seem like a rollercoaster. But our FAITH, must be.
Our relationship with God and our pursuit of constant renewal and work towards sanctification must be a priority in our life. We are constantly being pruned by God, “He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.” John 15:2.
The Lord is constantly at work within us, pruning the good that we have within ourselves and cutting off the bad. This is the process of sanctification, becoming more like Jesus.
It is in these times, the painful pruning process, that our faith needs to remain constant.
The difficult times are the times that we need to lean in to God.
The times that we feel we are the furthest from Him, He sees us under the fig tree and is with us.
When our pain is too much for us to bear, He begs you to give it over to Him.
Choosing to have faith in God is not only when you are on the mountain top. Steadfast Fatih means trusting in the valleys and saying, “God I trust you. I know that your ways are higher than my ways and your thoughts are higher than my thoughts. I will have faith that you have a plan for me. I trust you.”
Lean in to God and He will lean in to you.
“And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you” (1 Peter 5:10).
Choose today to be steadfast in your faith. Choose that you will not let outside influences affect your relationship with God. He is God over all the universe, and no matter the circumstances, we are to give Him the praise He deserves. Always and forever.
“I will bless the Lord at all times, His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” Psalm 34:1 (Emphasis added).
Remember, we need times in the low valleys, so that when God brings us out of them and into our “Mountain Top” moment, we can feel like this, and know that God is the reason!
