Sometimes God shows Himself to us in amazing ways.
My wife and I refer to these as God winks, and if you are paying attention, this happens consistently.
If you have ever purchased a new vehicle, you will know what I am talking about.
You might have your eye on a new truck. Let’s say it’s a nice new black Tundra. Once you get in the market and start looking at listings and dreaming about this new truck, you find that you start seeing it everywhere on the road.
You think to yourself, wow why am I seeing this truck everywhere suddenly?
It’s because it’s at the forefront of your mind and because you are looking for it!
There has always been the same amount of Tundra’s on the road. They didn’t just increase over night. But what did change was your perspective. Your filter for how you see the world.
The same works for our walk with Jesus.
What filter are you looking at the world with?
What perspective are you choosing to have?
If you are saying to yourself, “God is not with me, God is not working for me”, then you need to shift your perspective because we have a God that is ALWAYS at work. “In his defense Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working” John 5:17.
This is easier to do when you remain or abide in Christ, because He is at the forefront of your mind. And when you do this, you can choose to see the work Jesus is doing in small ways all around you. Things that could easily be missed if you have a different filter. But when you look at it for what it truly is you can see the work of Jesus all around you and feel Him “winking” at you, like a suttle reminder that He is with you.
This has happened to me a lot recently, but here is an example for you.
I recently started attending a new men’s bible study. I was excited to start but then I found that the location of this bible study is at a location that holds a lot of pain and trauma in my marriage. Already thinking that God would use His power to redeem this location and change it to a place that I don’t dread to drive by, I trusted Him and went anyways.
I walked in flooded with emotions. It was hard to be there. I was sad. But then on the speaker inside, the leader of the men’s bible study turned on a welcome song. The song was “In Jesus Name” by Katy Nichole.
This is the song that I have listened to on repeat for months and has been a victory song for me. It has gotten me through some of the hardest times. And now here it was being turned on when I needed it most.
Coincidence?
No.
It was a God wink. It was Him reminding me, “I am with you. I am always with you. In the calm and in the storm. In the wind and the waves. I am with you.”
Try today to look at life through a different filter. Pay attention to the details around you and try to see where God is “winking” at you.
“Look to the Lord and His strength; seek His face always.” 1 Chronicles 16:11
